The first teaser trailer for Logan, the new solo Wolverine film starring Hugh Jackman, was revealed by the actor on Twitter. Directed by James Mangold, the film promises to be very different from other comic book action movies, as we find a weary Logan living in a world with few mutants left.
The biggest reveal in the trailer is that X-23 is going to be in the film, as expected based on the poster that shows a small child’s hand gripping Logan’s. Dafne Keen plays the role of X-23, who also has adamantium claws.
Logan is set in 2024, where mutant births are in decline, but a shadowy group called “Transigen” is training those few remaining child mutants to become killing machines. Boyd Holbrook stars as Donald Pierce, the head of the agency and Patrick Stewart is back as Charles Xavier.
Logan opens on March 3, 2017. Mangold also directed 2013’s The Wolverine with Jackman in the title role. Jackman has insisted that the film will be rated R and, as Deadpool showed us in 2016, R-rated comic book films can be big hits. A mysterious Instagram page called @wponx (for “Weapon X”) has also shared images that promise a gory movie.
A page from the script was also shared:
Logan is partly inspired by the Old Mann Logan series.
Jackman has said that this will be his last time playing the character. He’s been playing Logan since 2000, when he starred in X-Men and has had two solo movies, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Wolverine.
