The 10th and final episode of Atlanta‘s first season on FX airs tonight. The show, which stars creator Donald Glover, used a thin premise to explore black life in Atlanta, pushing the expectations of a half-hour sitcom and the boundaries of basic cable. Read on for a preview of the finale and to find out when it begins.
The season one finale is titled “The Jacket.” As you can see in the preview above, it looks like Earn (Glover) and Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) will go out partying after Darius (Keith Stanfield) makes the suggestion. Unfortunately, Earn loses an important jacket during the party.
In Atlanta, Glover plays Earn, who becomes Paper Boi’s manager at the start of the season after hearing Paper Boi’s mixtape. Earn is also raising a child with his friend Van (Zazie Beetz) and struggles to make money. As the first season went along, Glover and his team began moving away from strictly following the plot, which allowed them to look at race in Atlanta and the country as a whole.
This culminated in the seventh episode, “B.A.N.,” which was a complete episode of a talkshow in which Paper Boi had to sit through a tedious interview after joking about Caitlyn Jenner on Twitter. The episode included a package about a child who claimed he was “trans-racial” and a 35-year-old white man trapped inside a black high school student’s body.
Atlanta has been renewed for a second season.
