Tonight is the Season 1 finale of The Orville. The show has been a big ratings success for Fox and it’s already renewed for Season 2. But with only 12 episodes this season and nothing airing in the spring, this season felt far, far too short. We’re not ready to say goodbye. The previews are hinting that a character might be sacrificed during the finale, and fans definitely aren’t ready to say goodbye to a favorite either. Maybe we’ll get lucky and it will just a be a red shirt who bids us farewell.
The season finale of The Orville airs tonight at 9 p.m. Eastern (8 p.m. Central) on December 7, 2017 on Fox. To find what channel Fox is on for you, click here to go to TV Guide’s listings. Here’s the synopsis for tonight’s episode, “Mad Idolatry.” “Ed and Kelly seriously reconsider getting back together. However, while Kelley is on a mission with Isaac and Gordon to investigate the origins of an uncharted star, they suddenly crash-land on a planet from another universe. Kelly then makes a decision with unforeseen long-term consequences for the planet, putting Ed in a difficult position.” Fans aren’t too sure that they want Ed and Kelly getting back together though. They’ve really enjoyed the banter and they like the two characters growing separately and exploring their own lives without being tied closely together outside of their jobs. From the description though, it sounds like they don’t get very far before things go very wrong. Watch a preview of the finale below:
The preview is definitely hinting that someone might die. Who do you think it could be? The previews seem to be hinting that it could be Isaac, but that could simply be misdirection. He’s a valued member of the crew and provides a lot of comic relief, so it would be sad to see him go. Some fans have noted that Isaac seems able to transfer his consciousness, so maybe it would just be his body that would die and he would end up with a new body, which could make for interesting repercussions in Season 2.
Other fans think we’ll see a redshirt death, meaning it could be Dann, the secondary character who provides quite a bit of comic relief. Or maybe it will just be a random crew member and we’ve been misled to think it will be one of the main characters. Other fans are thinking that Bortus’ mate, Klyden, might be the one to go since we haven’t seen him as much lately. But Klyden’s and Bortus’ interactions have been pure gold, and his absence would be sorely missed. Who do you think it could be?
