Team Kelly Clarkson on "The Voice" 2018
Last season, Kelly Clarkson won The Voice with singer Brynn Cartelli, a 15-year-old high school student. As for what happened with Cartelli after her win, Clarkson said to Parade that she told Cartelli, "You need a single. My husband [Brandon Blackstock], who manages me also, said, ‘You have to have something to bridge to her upcoming album,’ because you want to keep the momentum going. At the same time, I always tell her to stop and enjoy it, and don’t get too overwhelmed. It is good to keep the momentum, but not to be miserable. I didn’t have anybody to tell me that, so I am constantly annoying her with this message. I am, ‘It is not worth it unless you are having a good time.'" Clarkson's husband definitely knows what it takes to make it in music. After all, he reps fellow judge Blake Shelton.
Now, Clarkson is at it again and she has three remaining contestants on her team, each hoping to take the win this season. Going into the knockout rounds for season 15, the Team Kelly contestants were Sarah Grace, Kymberli Joye, Claire DeJean, Chevel Shepherd, Abby Cates, Natasia GreyCloud, and Zaxai. Clarkson's team has shrunk down since then. Last week, Clarkson lost singer Lynnea Moorer after she sang for America's Instant Save. The contestants remaining on Clarkson's team are Sarah Grace, Kymberli Joye, and Chevel Shepherd.
Shepherd is 16 years old and she hails from Farmington, New Mexico. In an interview with KOB4, Shepherd discussed some of the advice that her coach, Clarkson, has been giving to her throughout the course of the season. Shepherd said that, "What Kelly Clarkson told me was that I was in my head a lot. And she's been in my shoes, so what she told me kind of motivated to pick her because I feel like she could do a lot for me in the future."
As for contestant Sarah Grace, she was the first artist to be shown performing on the premiere episode of the season and she is just 15 years old. Grace has definitely had her moments of wowing the judges. Singer Kymberli Joye has been impressive with her vocals this season as well. When Joye is not performing or rehearsing for The Voice, she works as a worship leader and a minister, as stated in her NBC bio. She enjoys singing in church and has a religious background.
When it comes to how coach Kelly Clarkson feels about the other coaches, she has great things to say about each of them. In fact, People reported that Clarkson actually made each of them blankets earlier this year. Clarkson said, "I love putting on vinyl and having wine and quilting. It’s fun. I’m not great at it, but I like it." But, Clarkson does take pleasure in going up against Blake Shelton. She told Parade that last season, all she wanted was to beat Shelton on the show.
