Aformer “Dancing with the Stars” contestant shared sad family news late in the evening on August 29. After nearly three decades together, Leah Remini and her husband are getting a divorce. She posted the announcement on her Instagram page.
Leah Remini & Angelo Pagan Were Together for 28 Years
Remini posted a lengthy caption with a pair of photos on her Instagram page. One photo showed the couple in their younger days, while the other one was more recent.
“Well, here we are. After 28 years together and 21 years of marriage, we have decided to file for divorce,” Remini wrote.
She continued, “This decision came after a lot of thought and care, and as hard as divorce is, we are approaching this with a positive outlook because we know it’s what’s best for us.”
The season 17 DWTS alum noted she’s proud of how she and Pagan have navigated this situation so far.
Remini acknowledged they’re sad, and added that they still have things to sort out as they “move forward into our new normal–together still in many ways, and apart in some new ones.”

Remini also wrote that she and Pagan remain close friends. “We are still celebrating holidays together, watching our favorite tv shows together, and gathering as a family.”
She continued, “So, the big question–why? To put it simply, we both changed, as people do, and we got used to playing roles that didn’t fit us anymore.”
She was immediately flooded with supportive messages.
One fan commented, “This is the most human and mature way I’ve seen people dealing with divorce. I hope the best for the both of you! Love you both!!”
“No matter how you spin it, this makes me sad,” added another.
“A successful relationship! There is no such thing as failure when you’ve lived, loved, raised a child, and agreed to keep growing! I applaud you and wish you both all the best and so much love,” someone else wrote.
“Folks always think that when there’s a breakup it means the relationship wasn’t successful. Thank you for providing the opposite,” read a separate comment.
Some Comments Posted on Remini’s Page Were Quite Negative
Although Remini received a lot of supportive comments in response to her divorce announcement, there were critical notes, too.
“This ‘we love each other, we’re best friends, we support each other — but we’re getting divorced’ crap is just that: crap. No one takes the sanctity of marriage seriously anymore and it’s sad,” wrote one critic.
“So sad to normalize ‘if it doesn’t work out, move on’ or even the ‘we’ve changed’ that’s not what vows are. It’s for better or worse. I pray God would forgive you and heal this nation,” read another comment.
“What happened [to] til death do us part. Good times and bad. It’s a life partnership. Sad,” someone else shared.
Remini also explained she hoped their “journey” as they move forward can “inspire others to see that relationships–whether they change or end–aren’t failures.”
She promised they would continue to share glimpses into their lives as they “navigate this new chapter.”
