Once the beaches open up and the weather gets a tad bit warmer outside, video game releases seem to slow down to a disappointing crawl. That seems to be the same case for gamers this Summer 2014. However, there may be a sleeper hit awaiting bored gamers on June 3, 2014.
Murdered: Soul Suspect may be a game you’ve never even heard about or know existed, but we’re here to bring you up to speed on it. This haunting action/adventure game is something you may want to keep your eyes peeled for.
Here’s everything you need to know about the 1st major video game release in June 2014, Murdered: Soul Suspect!
1. This Action/Adventure Release Focuses on a Dead Detective Who’s Out to Solve His Own Murder
Murdered: Soul Suspect will place players in the (ghostly) shoes of a recently slain detective named Ronan O’Connor. Connor’s death comes courtesy of an unidentified killer. Connor makes his return to the world he was killed in in order to figure out who was responsible for his murder.
Along the way, Ronan comes into contact with a woman named Joy. Joy can actually speak with Ronan’s spirit due to the abilities she’s inherited from her missing psychic mother. While Ronan tries to solve his own murder, he also has to contend with a slew of evil, demonic creatures that look to devour his soul.
During an interview conducted with XBoxAchievements.com, Creative Director Yosuke Shiokawa offered some more details behind the game’s main protagonist:
He’s not a good cop. As a detective he did a lot of bad things, so he had a very dirty background, but when he met his wife he tried to become as good a detective as he could be. Eventually he becomes a great detective, but then he gets killed, so he’s actually a really unlucky guy!
If you’re wondering how the actual gameplay looks, you can check out the gameplay video posted above.
2. The Main Setting of the Game is Salem
The entirety of Ronan’s paranormal activities will transpire in the town of Salem, Massachusetts. Airtight Games CCO Matt Brunner spoke with OVGNews.com about his own ghostly encounter in Salem and why this town made sense as Murdered: Soul Suspect primary game location:
I’ve seen a ghost first hand when I lived in Houston, Texas, so I have no doubt that they exist. The interesting thing about that encounter was that it didn’t scare me at all. It felt natural and calm. Where they exist and why was a fictional challenge we faced with Murdered: Soul Suspect because, believe it or not, there isn’t a lot of predetermined rules embedded in our culture for that. None of us had first hand experience. :) In the beginning we had a wide range of possibilities for The Dusk on our plate and why ghosts were there. We worked with the notion that exists in most cultures that ghosts hang around because there is something that they have not finished or there is something that they can’t let go of. They create their own prisons through attachments that are oftentimes hard for them to see or figure out. The hook for the game is to solve your own murder, but the implied story arc mystery is to figure out what is keeping you from moving on.
3. The Limited Edition of the Game Will Come With a Digital Strategy Map
For those who pre-order their copy of Murdered: Soul Suspect, they shall automatically get updated to receive the Limited Edition. This Limited Edition will award gamers with a digital map of the game’s locales, which can be accessed via a computer or tablet device. This map will aid gamers in locating the many hidden items, side quests and easter eggs that are enclosed within this release.
