‘Clash of Clans’: Top Tips & Cheats for Dark Elixir Troops (Minion, Valkyrie, Golem and More)

This Clash of Clans guide will provide you with the tips needed to train and utilize your powerful Dark Elixir troops in the most effective way possible!

1. The Minion

• The horned Minion demons troops are pretty fast but weak flying unit types. They hit their max level at level 6 (their look stays the same at levels 1 & 2 and levels 3 & 4). They don’t take much Dark Elixir to produce, so you should put a huge group of them on the field at one time. It’s important to note that Seeking Air Mines are unable to get a solid bead on these troop types, but Minions are susceptible to getting hit by Air Bombs. If you’re using these troops during a raid, make sure you destroy your rivals’ Air Defenses and Defense -type Buildings. Once you cut down these building types, a group of huge Minions can tear down several defenses pretty quickly. If you’re looking to keep your Minions alive longer, spawn them near a group of Giants for extra firepower and a better distraction factor. Minions can get torn apart by Wizard Towers, so build ’em up when they’re trying to take your fort down.

2. The Valkyrie

• The uber-powerful Valkyrie unit type are one of the best troops to employ in the game. They hit their max level at level 4 (their visual makeup stays the same at levels 1 & 2 and levels 3 & 4). Valkyries can dish out the most damage against hero types, like the Barbarian King and Archer Queen. As soon as you spot those Hero types on the field, spawn two or three Valkyries ASAP! These unit types can deal out some splash damage, but the range of those ranged attacks is pretty short. It’s best to partner up a few Valkyries with other mega-powerful troops (hook ’em up with a P.E.K.K.A for extra destructive power). These troop types make for great Clan Castle troops. Taking these troops down means you’ll have to spawn some extra powerful ground troops and air troops.

3. The Golem

• The mighty Golem troops are another brand of mega powerful Dark Elixir troops. They hit their ax level at level 5 (their look stays the same at levels 1 & 2 and levels 3 & 4). Golems can do pretty good splash damage, plus they head straight for Defensive Buildings. Golems are better suited to fight alongside other high-damage dealing troops. Two Golems packed together with a crew of ranged troops would do great things for your raiding efforts. Golems can completely bypass Spring Traps, but they can teared to shreds by Inferno Towers. That’s a pretty good tip to know when you’re on the defensive against some Golems.

4. The Witch

• Witches summon skeletal warriors to aid them on the field. Once they hit their max level of 2, they get even more skeletons to summon in their wake. Their look stays the same at all times. Witches are better served as support troops, so spawn them alongside the types of troops that can soak up a lot of damage. Spawn some Witches next to Golems or Giants, we say. The Witches skeleton troops can easily overwhelm Defensive Buildings, so you’ll be able to take them out quicker with buildings that deal out splash damage.

5. The Lava Hound

• Lava Hounds focus on destroying one thing and one thing only – Air Defenses! They can soak up a ton of damage, so they’re simply one of the best flying troops to employ. Once they destroy all Air Defenses, they’ll turn their attention to taking down Defensive Buildings. They hit their max level at levels 1 & 2 (they hit their max level and change forms at level 3). Lava Hounds are very weak against Inferno Towers, so remember that when you spawn them and when you wanna figure out a way to kill ’em quicker. Seeking Air Mines and Air Bombs also do some significant damage against these Lava Hounds.

6. The Hog Rider

• WE PITY THE FOOL! These Hog Riders totally look like Mr. T-lookalikes, right? Anyway, these troop types hit their max level at level 5 (their look stays the same at level 1 & 2 and levels 3 & 4). These unit types have the special ability to hop over Walls, so produce a two or three of them and try to keep them alive with your Healing Spell. They can dish out some high damage once they start tearing into enemy troops. Hog Riders and Giants make a good troop combination. Taking them apart means you’ll need to build up some Inferno Towers and throw some Giant Bombs their way.
