If you’ve been wondering, “Will the Nintendo NX have Pokémon?”, the answer is yes.
Pokémon Co.’s chief executive, Tsunekazu Ishihara, spoke in an interview with The Wall Street Journal Tuesday about the widespread success of Pokémon Go and its effect on sales. Existing Pokémon titles have seen a surge in popularity since the mobile game’s release; in addition to preorders for the upcoming titles Sun and Moon, sales of the 3DS and Pokémon X and Y have seen an increase as well. This has led many to wonder whether there will be any Pokémon games for the upcoming console, codenamed the Nintendo NX. When asked, Ishihara responded:
“The NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a hand-held device. We will make games for the NX.”
He declined to reveal further details, like what titles specifically and whether they would be available at the console’s launch. However, it’s been reported that Pokémon will be among the Nintendo NX games releasing within six months of the console. Given the proximity of the console’s release date to the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon and the fact that the NX will function as a hybrid handheld/television console, there has been speculation that we could see a Nintendo NX version of these games.
The Nintendo NX is currently slated to release in March of 2017, but as of right now we haven’t heard any official details about the mysterious console. Stay tuned to Heavy.com for Nintendo NX updates as well as all your gaming news.
