The Pokemon Go Easter event has just begun, and during this special holiday spectacular, the second generation starter Pokemon can finally be hatched.
The generation two starter Pokemon, of course, are Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. Before this event began, these three Pokemon could not be hatched from eggs at all.
However, with the Easter event, the generation two starer Pokemon have begun to appear in eggs. This was originally discovered by Reddit user ch33psh33p, who posted the following screenshot of a Totodile that was caught in a 5km egg:
Later, another Reddit user hatched a Cyndaquil from a 5km egg:
There have not yet been reports of Chikorita being hatched, but presumably, this creature is also now available from 5km eggs.
In all of the reports that have emerged online, users have caught the generation two starter Pokemon only from a 5km egg, and so it seems that the starters may be exclusive to this tier and not found in 2km eggs.
It should be noted that Pokemon Go determines what is going to be in an egg the moment you pick it up, not the moment you hatch it. Therefore, if you have any 5km eggs in your inventory that you obtained prior to the afternoon of April 13th, these can’t hatch the generation two starters.
However, if you have any eggs in your inventory that were obtained after the afternoon of April 13th, they may contain Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. It’s not yet clear if this is a permanent change or if it’s just for the Easter event.
In addition to this, during the Pokemon Go Easter event, a variety of rare Pokemon can now be obtained by hatching 2km eggs even when these creatures were previously exclusive to 5km eggs and 10km eggs.
