The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is receiving its first DLC pack this summer. This is the first of two DLC packs that will be coming to the game as part of the Expansion Pass.
Several things will be added to the game including:
- Trial of the Sword
- Hero’s Path Mode
- Hard Mode
- Travel Medallion
- New Armor
The Trial of the Sword occurs at the Master Sword location where you face waves of enemies one after another, about 45 total and the true power of the Master Sword awakens. We don’t really know what that means but we’re excited for it.
The Hero’s Path Mode is described as a new map feature that show the path Link has traveled and creates a series lines on your map to show where you’ve been in your travels. It’s designed to show you where you barely go and to encourage you to explore those areas. The mode will track up to 200 hours of your movements and will retroactively track your steps when you download the DLC.
In Hard Mode, Nintendo has ramped up the difficulty and made things, well, hard. Enemies will now regenerate health and all enemies have powered up one level. This means goodbye Red Bokoblins and hello Blue Bokoblins. Enemies now have higher maximum level as well so things really have gotten hard.
Our favorite addition is the Travel Medallion. You will find a chest somewhere in the world that has the medallion inside. When you get it, you will be able to register your current location as a fast travel point on the map. Unfortunately, you can only register one location at a time but it’s better than nothing.
A variety of new armors are being added including the Majora’s Mask, Midna’s Helmet, Phantom Armor and Tingle’s Outfit.
There will be eight chests scattered throughout Hyrule that have clues containing these different armors. You have to be on the lookout for tips regarding the locations of these chests.
Last but not least, we have the Korok Mask.
The Korok Mask will also be found hidden in a treasure chest somewhere in the world. While wearing this mask, it will shake whenever Link is near a hidden Korok location. There are 900 Koroks hiding in Hyrule, so this should help you discover quite a few of them. Many Koroks are usually found underneath rocks out in the wild so these will probably be a great help to you while you’re hunting for them.
What do you think of all the additions? You can purchase the Expansion Pass for $19.99 which will include both DLC Pack 1 and DLC Pack 2, releasing more towards the end of the year. It is possible DLC Pack 1 could be releasing June 23, the same day as the new Zelda amiibo figures. We don’t know for sure but that could a good time to create some Zelda hype
