‘Marvel Heroes Omega’: Xbox One and PS4 Release Date Set

The popular Diablo clone from PC released on PS4 last month in the form of an open beta. Marvel Heroes Omega is a rebranding of Marvel Heroes 2016, which itself was rebranded from Marvel Heroes 2015. Surprisingly, we haven’t had it renamed to Marvel Heroes 2017.

Today, Gazillion announced the release date of the title on Xbox One and PS4. The game will launch June 30 for Xbox One owners, which is the same day it will leave the beta for PS4 owners. The PS4 version will upgrade to a full game while the Xbox One will skip out on the beta entirely.

This game will feature a local co-op option, like Diablo 3 on consoles and the PS4 beta, so you will be able to enjoy this beta from the comfort of your couch with either a friend or significant other. A second PSN account was required for the PS4 version so you might end up needing a second Xbox Live Gold account here for the Xbox One version. We’ll let you know when we find out more information.

The game features tons of playable heroes and villains and progression follows very closely to the Diablo formula. Part of that could be because the project was once headed by David Brevik, one of the masterminds behind the much-beloved Diablo 2. Brevik has since left the project to join the Path of Exile team, another Diablo clone that’s arguably better than Diablo itself. If you’re interested in Path of Exile, that is also coming to consoles eventually.

Hers’s the description of the game, as seen in the press release:

Offered as a free download, Marvel Heroes Omega combines the core gameplay of action-RPGs and MMOs with an expansive library of heroes from the Marvel Universe. Take on the role of your favorite characters, including Spider-Man, the Avengers, the Defenders, the Inhumans, the X-Men, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and more! With thousands of hours of character progression, hundreds of costumes, and an ever-growing roster of playable heroes and rewards, Marvel Heroes Omega comes packed with tons of replay value and a steady stream of new challenges coming in regular updates.

The game itself is completely free-to-play, meaning it will be free to download but it will be riddled with micro-transactions. For example, you may need to buy additional heroes to play as. The PlayStation Store sells character bundles so we’ll likely be seeing the same thing on Xbox One.

Will you be jumping into the world of Marvel Heroes come June 30? Let us know in the comments below.
