WATCH: ‘Metroid Prime 4’ Officially Announced for Nintendo Switch

Nintendo is a company built on their famous and colorful mascots such as Mario, Kirby, and Donkey Kong. However, one of their most neglected in recent years is the Metroid franchise. While players received a spin-off title called Metroid Prime: Federation Force, there hasn’t been a core entry in the series since the early days of the Wii. Many fans lost hope at ever receiving a Metroid Prime game, but thankfully Nintendo decided to raise our spirits once more.

Announced during the E3 2017 Nintendo Direct, Metroid Prime 4 is officially happening and we couldn’t be more excited. Set for the Nintendo Switch, we have no idea when this game is set to launch or who is even developing this title. For those unaware, the Metroid Prime series is a first-person shooter that places users in the role of intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran. Players were able to explore a variety of unique locations and battle against space pirates and dangerous wildlife like giant insects.

The mix of exploration, research, and combat was nearly perfect in these games, as it captured the feeling of a 2D Metroid perfectly. Fights were always challenging, so one can only hope this carries over to the Nintendo Switch sequel that is in development.

Much of this series praise comes from the mature and often dark themes that this series has focused on. While Nintendo is mainly known for more colorful and cheerful titles, the Metroid Prime games have always been far maturer. This allowed them to garner a rather large fanbase, as it was unlike anything in Nintendo’s library.

Currently, we know nothing outside of this announcement and given how lengthy Nintendo development times Metroid Prime 4 could be a couple years away. However, if you want to pre-order Metroid Prime 4, Amazon has already opened up a page for those already looking to lock up their copy.
