What Is the Difference Between a Mid Tower and Full Tower?

There is a lot of tech-speak when discussing this but let's keep this simple and to the point: This is a difference of size and a question of what it is your building. 

Mid towers are smaller than full towers, that's a given. But it's also worth keeping in mind the size of the tower changes the size of the motherboard required, and in some cases, what you can fit inside the case. 

As a rough guideline, if you're building a super hot gaming rig, you want a full tower to accommodate heavy-duty components without restricting the airflow. 

If you're building a workstation or a mid-range gaming PC, a mid tower is sure to get the job done. It's only when we start upping the power that a full tower comes into play. 

What to Look for When Picking a Case

Building a PC isn't like buying a phone. With a phone, the manufacturer has done all the work so you don't have to. With a PC, you absolutely need to perform some basic research before you hit buy. 

That includes: 

  • Checking to make sure the parts will physically fit inside the case
  • Does the case has the slots/spaces you need for your parts?
  • Making sure the motherboard you want will fit
  • Does the case have a good airflow?
  • Can you attach the right level of heatsinks needed to keep everything nice and cool? 
  • Do you need a mid tower or a full tower?

These are just some of the questions you need to ask yourself. While Amazon can be lenient with its returns policy, it'll save you a headache if you spend an extra 10 minutes to make sure the case you want is the case you need.
