Beyoncé and Jay Z Got Slim On a 22-Day Vegan Diet
In December 2013, both Beyoncé and her husband, rapper Jay Z, went on a 22-day vegan diet on the advice of their trainer, Marco Borges. Even after the 22 days were over, the couple adopted a mostly plant-based diet with the addition of some fish and meat.
When they performed on the Grammy stage together in January 2014, it was clear that they had both dropped serious weight on the plant-based diet. See more photos of their performance here.

Here’s a sample menu from the eighth day that they were on the diet together.
Vegan Diet Meal Plan:
Breakfast: Gluten free banana pancakes, served with 1 cup fresh berries
Lunch: Mango, kale, and avocado salad
Afternoon snack: Apple, banana, melon, berries, or any other fresh fruit of choice
Dinner: Eggplant rollatini with cashew cheese, steamed greens or broccoli as desired
Dessert: Dark chocolate

Beyoncé Lost Her Baby Weight with a Protein-Based Diet
After the birth of her baby, Blue Ivy Carter, Beyonce only had a few months before she had to get back on stage. To lose some of the baby weight and get her pre-baby body back, she did three 90-minute workouts per week. She went to the gym, danced, and ran. She also add a protein-based diet to lose weight and gain muscle.
Here’s a sample menu from Beyonce’s Protein-Packed Diet:
Breakfast: egg whites
Lunch: protein shake or fresh sliced turkey with capers
Snack: edamame or cucumbers with vinegar, cayenne pepper and lemon, berries or a green apple
Dinner: yellowtail sashimi with jalapenos and wasabi
Beyoncé is Famous for the Master Cleanse, but She Doesn’t Endorse It
During an interview with Elle, they mentioned her famous weight loss from the Master Cleanse for her role in Dreamgirls. When they asked if she’d do it again, she responded:
Never. I did it to lose weight really fast, but it wasn’t fun. There are healthier ways to lose weight—I wouldn’t recommend it.
Beyoncé Credits Her Fitness to Mental Strength
She told Self in an interview:
The truth is, it’s a lot of sacrifice. It’s more about your mental strength than physical strength. You have to push yourself. It doesn’t matter what trainer you have. And it doesn’t matter what program you’re on. You have to be healthy and make the right choices.
