Canadian jazz band BadBadNotGood splashed on the scene in 2011 with their debut album “BBNGI” and since then they’ve gained fans, covered a multitude of artists and collaborated with even more. In 2016 the group released their fourth album “IV”, on it is a track called “Lavender” that features producer Kaytranada. Today I have the video for a remix of the track that now features vocals from the one and only Snoop Dogg.
The music video takes a metaphorical approach to the gun violence in our country. It has a multitude of people dressed as clowns and starts with a person (dressed as a clown) getting stopped by a clown officer. The officer proceeds to shoot the citizen with a confetti gun. All the while Snoop Dogg’s groovy, funky flow fits perfectly with the BadBadNotGood and Kaytranada soundscape. The video continues with someone impersonating Trump, who just so happens to be also dressed as a clown, getting shot by Snoop Dogg.
This is one of many collaborations BadBadNotGood has done with emcees, they’ve done work with Mick Jenkins, MF DOOM, Tyler the Creator and more. In fact in 2015 the band came out with “Sour Soul” an album with Wu-Tang’s Ghostface Killah. Check out the “Lavender” Remix and you can stream BBNG’s album “IV” below.
