Chicago emcee Noname’s come-up has been amazing to watch. Finally gaining much deserved recognition and spotlight. Her poetry and rhymes have been heard as guest features since 2013. Collaborating on songs with Mick Jenkins, The Social Experiment, Kirk Knight and most notably Chance the Rapper, fans were fiending for a solo release. In July of last year Noname released her debut mixtape “Telefone”. The mixtape received critical acclaim with the song “Yesterday” being named Pitchfork’s 37th best track of 2017. Pitchfork also gave her song “Diddy Bop” Best New Track back in August. Pitchfork and other publications like Stereogum, The Skinny and others placed the mixtape in their top 30 releases of 2016.
Fast forward to now, Noname is currently on sold out national tour and during it she stopped by the New York Times for their “Live! With The Times” Facebook Live series. A series that has featured the likes of Erykah Badu, American Football and more, has the artist perform a few songs and answer questions posed live by the audience. Noname performed three songs and answered questions surrounding her role in hip-hop and whether or not she would get signed to a label or not.
