With less than 24 hours until Kendrick Lamar supposedly drops his new album, information remains scarce. Aside from “Humble,” the lead single that features production from Mike WiLL Made-It, Lamar and Top Dawg Entertainment have been tight-lipped about who will appear on the album, what the titles of each track are, and whether it will actually come out on April 7th. Now, a rumor has resurfaced on Twitter that suggests Nicki Minaj could be a guest feature on the album.
These rumors first appeared in February, when Lamar complimented Minaj’s verse on the song “Make Love,” where she raps “B*tch I’m the greatest, no Kendrick and no Sia/I’m the iPhone, you the Nokia.” Lamar hopped on Twitter and said “I love it Nicki Minaj,” before the two followed one another on the platform and began allegedly recording music together.
According to an insider for HollywoodLife, “Kendrick loves, respects, and admires Nicki and she’s a good friend of his. Kendrick only works with the best of the best in the biz and Nicki is among them.” The insider added that Lamar could be working with Minaj as a means of getting at his emcee enemy Drake, whom he’s had beef with since 2013: “Kendrick really despises Drake and wants to create some banging hits that would destroy every collab she did with Drake.” This wouldn’t be out of character for Lamar, whose recent promotional single, “The Heart Part 4,” took shots at other rappers in the industry including Big Sean and (allegedly) Drake. Could King Kendrick have more to say on the matter?
Lamar also liked a tweet by Minaj (his only like) that reads: “I’ve officially gotten all my super powers back,” which could be alluding to the fact that she has new fire on her album or someone else’s in the near future. Of course, with no official tracklist in sight, there’s no way to confirm the Minaj collaboration is fact or mere fiction. We will have to wait for the album to be released to know for sure. Until then, check out the music video for “Humble” below.
