Good to go Friday
Boston (leg) isn't on the injury report for Friday's game versus the 76ers. Boston is set to play Friday despite exiting Wednesday's matchup with Portland early due to a right leg injury. Boston is averaging 8.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in 18.6 minutes across his last 10 appearances.
Exits with injury
Boston exited Wednesday's game against Portland and went back to the locker room with an apparent right leg injury and did not return, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports. Boston committed an intentional foul to sub himself out and immediately went back to the locker room with what looks to be a right leg injury. He finishes the contest with six points (3-12 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 0-2 FT), four rebounds and a steal across 21 minutes. His next chance to play will come Friday at Philadelphia.
Drops 14 points Wednesday
Boston finished Wednesday's 119-108 loss to the Heat with 14 points (5-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 4-4 FT), four rebounds, one assist and one steal in 20 minutes. Boston led the bench unit with 14 points, continuing to make the most of what are now limited opportunities. He stepped into a major role earlier in the season, but with the roster getting healthier by the week, his playing time has subsequently dipped. Nonetheless, it has been a fantastic learning experience for Boston, allowing him to prove he belongs in the NBA.
Scores 17 points off bench
Boston amassed 17 points (7-14 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-3 FT), six rebounds, one assist and four steals over 19 minutes during Thursday's 128-111 loss to the Rockets. Boston had been trending in the wrong direction of late following a strong, albeit unsustainable, start to the campaign when he was forced to step up amid a rash of injuries. Boston has been playing exclusively off the bench since the beginning of December, and while that role limits his fantasy upside in most formats, he's still a serviceable streaming option in some slates. This 17-point outing was the sixth time he scored in double digits across 10 December appearances, but only the second time he did it over his previous six. The strong performance Thursday could mean he's showing signs of ending the woeful stretch that saw him shoot just 40.9 percent from the floor between Dec. 12 and Dec. 22.
Game-high three steals in defeat
Boston totaled seven points (3-9 FG, 1-2 3Pt), three rebounds, three assists and three steals in 21 minutes during Thursday's 133-113 loss to the Rockets. Boston struggled with efficiency Thursday, though he led the Pelicans' bench in scoring while racking up a game-high mark in steals. The 23-year-old has delivered a career-best season while seeing a sizable uptick in playing time due to injuries. Over his last five games, Boston has averaged 12.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.4 steals across 25.6 minutes per contest.
Leading scorer off bench Sunday
Boston registered 20 points (7-15 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 3-5 FT), two rebounds, one assist and one steal over 31 minutes off the bench during Sunday's 119-104 loss to the Pacers. The fourth-year wing led the Pelicans in scoring on the night, hitting 20-plus points for the first time since Nov. 8. Boston continues to have a significant role for an undermanned New Orleans roster even after his shift back to the second unit, scoring in double digits in six of the last seven games while averaging 14.3 points, 2.9 boards, 1.9 threes, 1.3 assists and 1.1 steals in 24.6 minutes a contest.
Scores 17 points in loss
Boston logged 17 points (7-11 FG, 3-5 3Pt), three rebounds, one assist and one steal in 28 minutes during Sunday's 121-116 loss to the Spurs. With Brandon Ingram out indefinitely with an ankle sprain, there's suddenly an opportunity for Boston to be very relevant in fantasy leagues as a key part of the second unit offense. He's proven to be a reliable contributor when the minutes are there, and through the first five games of December, he's averaging 14.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.8 three-pointers in just 22.8 minutes per contest.
Drops 19 points in loss
Boston registered 19 points (7-15 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds and one steal over 29 minutes during Monday's 124-112 loss to the Hawks. Boston continues to make the most of his opportunities, as he scored in double digits for the second straight game. Despite moving back to the bench, Boston has maintained a meaningful role on a team that has now lost nine straight games. If and when the Pelicans are fully healthy, Boston could very well fall out of the rotation altogether. Until that happens, he should be able to provide serviceable production on both ends of the floor.
Returns to bench
Boston isn't in the starting five for Friday's game versus the Grizzlies. Boston will be replaced by Trey Murphy in the starting lineup Friday. Boston is averaging 10.8 points, 3.6 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 24.8 minutes across his last five appearances coming off the bench.
