Heading to bench Friday
Knecht is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Timberwolves, Ryan Ward of LakersNation.com reports. The Lakers will tweak their lineup with the return of Austin Reaves, and the rookie will head to the bench, as his elite shooting ability can be an asset off in the second unit. Knecht is averaging 7.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game off the bench this season.
Struggles with shot
Knecht logged six points (3-9 FG, 0-3 3Pt), eight rebounds, one assist and one steal across 22 minutes during Sunday's 107-98 victory over Portland. With LeBron James (foot) missing his first game of the season, Knecht will be disappointed that he couldn't take advantage of the extra usage. Knecht has lost a lot of steam to open December, averaging 6.8 points on 35.7 percent shooting over his last five outings.
Leading scorer in Friday's loss
Knecht closed Friday's 101-93 loss to the Thunder with 20 points (7-17 FG, 6-13 3Pt), six rebounds and four assists across 33 minutes. The rookie led the Lakers in scoring as he continues to take on a bigger role in the offense. Knecht has started six of the last eight games and scored at least 14 points in each start, averaging 22.5 points, 5.5 boards and 4.8 threes in 34.0 minutes over those six outings.
Good to go against OKC
Knecht (quadriceps) is available for Friday night's game against the Thunder, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports. Knecht will play through a right quadriceps injury Friday for a second straight game. He's coming off a 20-point performance against the Kings on Wednesday, and over his last 10 games (including five starts), he has averaged 15.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists over 28.0 minutes per game.
Probable for Friday
Knecht is probable for Friday's game against the Thunder with a right quad contusion, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports. Knecht is coming off an impressive performance Wednesday after scoring a team-high 20 points in the win over the Spurs. Even though he's listed as probable for this matchup Friday, all signs point to him being available and likely to handle the same workload he's had in recent games. Knecht has started in five of the Lakers' last seven games, averaging 18.7 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in that span.
Leads Lakers in scoring
Knecht posted 20 points (8-15 FG, 4-10 3Pt), eight rebounds, one assist and two steals across 31 minutes during Wednesday's 119-101 win over San Antonio. Knecht led the Lakers in scoring ahead of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and his role on offense continues to grow with each passing game. The rookie out of Tennessee has been at his best when deployed in a starting role, as he's averaged 19.7 points per game while shooting 48 percent from three-point range in his six starts.
Available vs. San Antonio
Knecht (quadriceps) is starting Wednesday against the Spurs, according to Khobi Price of The Orange County Register. Knecht was initially listed as questionable and then bumped to probable, so his availability isn't entirely surprising, although his move to the starting unit will undoubtedly shake things up following the 27-point loss against the Suns on Tuesday. The rookie out of Tennessee is averaging 14.0 points per game over his last 10 appearances (five starts).
Probable to face Spurs
Knecht (quadriceps) has been upgraded to probable ahead of Wednesday's game against the Spurs. The rookie was initially listed as questionable, but the bump in status suggests he should be available to feature in his regular capacity. Knecht is averaging 14.0 points per game over his last 10 appearances (five starts).
Iffy for Wednesday
Knecht is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Spurs due to a right quad contusion, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports. This is a new injury for Knecht, but the questionable tag suggests that this is a day-to-day issue. Cam Reddish (ankle) is also questionable to face the Spurs. If Knecht is unable to suit up, Rui Hachimura could pick up a handful of extra minutes, and Max Christie could see extended run as well.
