Austin Reaves: Breaking News

Reaves (oblique) is expected to miss at least one more week, per Khobi Price of The California Post. Neither Reaves nor Luka Doncic (hamstring) will be re-evaluated this week, leaving both players in serious jeopardy of missing Los Angeles' first-round playoff series against the Rockets. LeBron James will have to do the heavy lifting offensively for the Lakers, and the likes of Marcus Smart, Jake LaRavia and Rui Hachimura will also be asked to step up.

Reaves (oblique) will miss the rest of the 2025-26 regular season and is expected to be sidelined for around four to six weeks, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. Reaves not only will miss the rest of the regular season, but the injury will sideline him for around four to six weeks, meaning he's also expected to miss the first round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs. This is a huge loss for the Lakers, as they also recently lost Luka Doncic (hamstring), meaning the burden on offense will go through LeBron James. Reaves averaged 23.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game in 51 regular-season contests, and his ability to return before the start of the playoffs will be key for the Lakers' chances to make a deep playoff run. Expect Luke Kennard and Bronny James to see expanded roles in the backcourt with both Reaves and Doncic sidelined.

Reaves (rib/oblique) underwent imaging recently and may not play in Sunday's game against Dallas, Khobi Price of The California Post reports. Reaaves underwent imaging to address injuries to his ribs and oblique. While the results are still pending and his official status for Sunday's meeting with Dallas hasn't been disclosed, it appears there's a chance he won't be on the floor for that contest. The 27-year-old has also been playing through a back injury. With the team already down Luka Doncic (hamstring) for at least the rest of the regular season, the latest update regarding Reaves means coach JJ Redick might be down another top producer. If that is the case, LeBron James may find himself handling the ball more, with Luke Kennard and Kobe Bufkin in line to see increased action at the point guard position.
