Bronny James Latest News
Expected to mostly play in G League
James is expected to spend most of his rookie season in the G League, Jovan Buha of The Athletic reports. James was slow to start Summer League but finished strong. Ultimately, this news isn't unexpected. Many second-round picks begin their careers primarily in the G League, and James still needs polish to his game
Resting for SL finale
James won't play in Saturday's Summer League game against Chicago for rest purposes, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports. With the Lakers competing in both the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer League, James has appeared in seven Summer League contests and several practices over the last two weeks. He'll join Dalton Knecht and Maxwell Lewis in street clothes Saturday.
Fills stat sheet in loss
James (knee) logged three points (1-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), five rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks over 29 minutes in Wednesday's 80-76 loss to the Heat in the California Classic Summer League. The Lakers' Summer League squad had back-to-back games over the weekend, of which James sat out the second due to swelling in his left knee. However, he was back in action Wednesday and flashed on the defensive end. The No. 55 pick will continue to see Summer League action in Las Vegas, with the Lakers' next game scheduled for Friday.
Out Sunday with swelling in knee
James will be held out of Sunday's Summer League matchup versus the Warriors due to swelling in his left knee, Mike Trudell of Spectrum SportsNet reports. James tallied four points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal on 2-for-9 shooting in his Summer League debut Saturday. The 19-year-old will be held out of Sunday's back-to-back as a precaution. However, James is expected to suit up for the Lakers' Summer League game against the Heat on Wednesday.
Inks four-year deal
James signed a four-year, $7.9 million contract with the Lakers on Tuesday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Per Michael Scotto of USA Today, the first two seasons of James' deal are fully guaranteed, while the rookie second-round pick has a partial guarantee of $1.3 million for the third year of the deal. The fourth year, meanwhile, is a $2.49 million team option. The contract ensures that James will be part of the Lakers' 15-man roster to open the upcoming season, but the 19-year-old will still face an uphill battle to break training camp with a regular spot in head coach JJ Redick's rotation. James will don purple and gold for the first time Saturday, when he's scheduled to play for the Lakers' entry in the California Classic Summer League.
