How cute is this?
Gabby Douglas tells Us Weekly that after becoming the first black woman to win Olympic gold in the all-around gymnastics competition, the 16-year-old was “Googling myself” — amazed to see herself as the world’s top topic:
“I googled ‘Gabby Douglas,’ and all these things popped up like ‘Gabby Douglas makes history!’ And ‘She’s the champion!'” she admitted to Us, laughing. “It was an amazing feeling. I was looking at all the pictures of me on the podium.”
She’s an Olympic champion and a historic pioneer, but she’s also a 16-year-old girl.
Us caught up with the new darling of America after this morning’s interview on the Today show, where Gabby appeared with three former champs, Mary Lou Retton (’84), Carly Patterson (’04) and Nastia Liukin (’08). Mary Lou tweeted this pic of them together:
