Remember that video of Marines pissing on Taliban corpses in Afghanistan? If not, here it is. Watch at your own risk.
Anyway, more than a year after the incident, two of the four pissers are facing charges, according to TMZ:
Staff Sergeants Joseph W. Chamblin and Edward W. Deptola have been charged for “violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice” for their involvement in the urination incident.
Both sergeants are based out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
The desecration took place around July 27, 2011, and there’s a slew of other no-no’s connected to the incident. In addition to poor supervision of their juniors, the sergeants allegedly failed to “report the negligent discharge of a grenade launcher” and failed to “stop the indiscriminate firing of weapons.” Additionally, Deptola allegedly failed to stop “the unecessary damaging of Afghan compounds” and “indiscriminately fir[ed] a recovered enemy machine gun.”
Previously, it was released that all the Marines are part of the same sniper team in the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines, which saw seven members killed in action in Afghanistan prior to the pissing.
