Polish Coffin Company Using Sexy Models to Sell its Product

A Polish coffin maker that’s been using a calendar of hot models posing with its product has angered the Catholic church, but says it isn’t backing down.

Images include a blonde model in a thong and with a snake draped around her neck reclining on a coffin, while another one has a woman in a red corset pulling out the heart of a man lying on a casket.

Zbigniew Lindner, the company’s owner, told Reuters a coffin isn’t a religious symbol and he sees nothing wrong with the calendar.

My son had the idea of creating the company’s calendar… so that we could show something half-serious, colorful, beautiful; the beauty of Polish girls and the beauty of our coffins. We wanted to show that a coffin isn’t a religious symbol. Its a product. Why are people afraid of coffins and not of business suits, cosmetics or jewelry?

The calendar isn’t only for publicity, but to make money, since the company’s website is selling it on its website. Anyone who buys a calendar gets a free key ring in the shape of a coffin.

However, the Catholic church has condemned the calendar, saying it’s inappropriate because death should be treated solemnly and not sexually.

The church’s complaints are falling on deaf ears, though, as its hold on the Polish people is starting to loosen. While nearly all Poles say they’re Catholic, many are easing up on church attendance, and many are starting to confront the church’s taboos on sexuality and religion.
