The Cocopah Middle School in Scottsdale, Arizona, is on lockdown as cops search for an armed person seen on school property this morning.

KFYI reports school officials “are asking parents to drop off kids at The Catholic Community of the Blessed Sacrament at 64th Street and Cholla until the campus has been cleared.”

AZfamily.com reports:

A food-service worker reported seeing a man in a long coat with a holstered weapon at about 6 a.m. School officials and police were taking every possible precaution.

The school’s website posted this statement:

This morning, a witness reported a suspicious person hanging around the campus at Cocopah Middle School. The unknown person was believed to have a firearm in a holster on his belt, and he walked away in an unknown direction. In order to ensure the safety of our students, police are currently searching the campus. In the meantime, Cocopah students are being redirected to Chaparral High School. SUSD personnel will take care of the students there until it is safe to return to Cocopah. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
