According to a statement from Connecticut State Police, the postmortem examinations of Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza and his mother, Nancy Lanza, have been completed, but a spokesperson for the state medical examiner’s office said Sunday that nobody has claimed the bodies. The spokesperson did not comment on what would happen to the bodies if they remained unclaimed.
Though, the gunman’s father, Nancy’s ex-husband Peter Lanza, issued a statement on Saturday expressing that he and his family are in disbelief over what his son did:
“We too are asking why,” he said in the statement. “Like so many of you, we are saddened, but struggling to make sense of what has transpired. Our family is grieving along with all those who have been affected by this enormous tragedy. No words can truly express how heartbroken we are,” he said in the statement.
Also surviving is Adam’s brother, Ryan, who was mistakenly ID’d as the shooter when cops found his ID on Adam’s body.
