Former U.S. president George H.W. Bush has been in intensive care at the Methodist Hospital in Texas following a persistent fever and a series of setbacks since Sunday, according to reports. The 88-year-old’s health has been deteriorating since November when he was hospitalized from bronchitis, but he is conscious and talking to the medical staff.
“It’s an elevated fever, so it’s actually gone up in the last day or two,” Jim McGrath, Bush’s spokesman said. “It’s a stubborn fever that won’t go away.”
Bush’s children Dorothy, Neil, Jeb and George W. have been visiting him in the ICU.
Further details have yet to become available. George H.W. Bush was president of the United States from 1989 to 1993.
