NBC sportscaster Bob Costas created a Twitter sh*tstorm last night by using part of the broadcast to advocate for gun control in the wake of the tragic murder/suicide involving Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend, Kassandra Perkins. Belcher committed suicide in front of his coach and team general manager.
Costas quoted Fox Sports columnist Jason Whitlock in closing his statement, saying:
Our current gun culture simply ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy, and that more convenience-store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will leave more teenage boys bloodied and dead.”
Cue an explosion on Twitter, where the Fox News crowd slammed NBC sportscaster Bob Costas for using the Jovan Belcher tragedy to further a political agenda, whereas liberal defenders thought it was the best thing ever seen on Sunday Night Football.
Costas was described by Fox News’ Greg Gutfield as a “doe-eyed sports’ version of Oprah who probably holds hands with his wife while watching the Lifetime channel”.
This Fox News talking head believes Costas may be plotting a future in politics.
