Russian Politician Says Meteorite was U.S. Weapons Test

Former Russian presidential candidate Vladimir Zhirinovsky believes the fireball that exploded over Russia this morning was a U.S. weapons test and not a natural meteor from space.

The Liberal Democratic party leader told Russian radio station The Voice of Russia:

Those were not meteorites, it was Americans testing their new weapons. [U.S. Secretary of State] John Kerry wanted to warn [Russia’s Foreign Minister] Lavrov on Monday, he was looking for Lavrov, and Lavrov was on a trip. He meant to warn Lavrov about a provocation against Russia.

A meteorite exploded over the Ural mountains in Russia early this morning, injuring some 1,200 people.

A BBC report described Zhirinovsky like this:

…considered a showman of Russian politics, blending populist and nationalist rhetoric, anti-Western invective and a brash, confrontational style.

Zhirinovsky became an Internet hit in 2012 with this presidential-election commercial:

In the video the Russian politician says:

Symbol of Russia always was group of three bold horses. And now we pass into lousy little donkey. If I become a president, we will return a trio of bold horses…

Zhirinovsky! And will be better!

Strangely the Liberal Democratic Party in Russia isn’t liberal, nor is it particularly in favor of democracy.
