Suicide Shooting in Ohio High School: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

A shooting at La Salle High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, this morning was a confirmed suicide attempt by a student, reports WCBO.com.

Here’s what you need to know about this tragic incident…


1. It Isn’t Known if the Shooting Was Fatal

There is no confirmation on the health of the student. He was brought to a local hospital, and a few minutes after his arrival a crying woman ran into the hospital from a car sporting a “La Salle High School” bumper sticker. Newsnet5 reports that the boy is “fighting for this life.”

3. The Threat Appears to be Over

The school was put on immediate lockdown by Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department. They do not believe there is any further threat. All students were moved into the school’s gym. The school’s website says:

ALL LA SALLE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE SAFE AND BEING DISMISSED INTO THE CUSTODY OF THEIR PARENTS DUE TO AN ATTEMPTED SUICIDE INVOLVING ONE STUDENT.

It occurred around 9:00 a.m. Monday 29 April at the all-male La Salle High School in Cincinnati, Ohio inside a classroom and was witnessed by students. An email sent out to parents from the school’s principal, Thomas Luebbe, read:

We had a tragedy today at La Salle High School!
One of our students shot himself and has been transported to the hospital. All other students at OK and presently assembled in our gymnasium.
Plans are being mad [sic] for dismissal of students.
