Madonna debuted her new short video, a collaboration with photographer and longtime Madonna collaborator Steven Klein. Seemingly deliberately looking to cause controversy, the under-one-minute clip is part music video, part interpretative dance, and part social commentary.
The controversial part of the video (if there is just one part) is when Madonna seemingly shoots a backup dancer in the head. When asked on ‘Good Morning America’ whether she would delete the footage of guns from her upcoming tour documentary, Madonna reportedly said “That would be like asking people to not have guns in action movies. The thing is, guns don’t kill people, people kill people.”
Whether Madonna is trying to actually enter the now-raging debate among gun control advocates or detractors, or if she’s just using extreme imagery yet again to promote her upcoming MDNA tour, we’ll never know, but the Secret Project is definitely worth taking a look at.
