In 2002, Elizabeth Smart was abducted from her bedroom at age 14 by the family’s handyman. After being raped each day for nine months in captivity, she was found 18 miles from her home in Utah. She was help hostage by Brian David Mitchell and Wanda Ileen Barzee. Barzee was sentenced to 15 years in prison, while receiving a credit of 7 years already served. Mitchell was sentenced to two life-terms.
Elizabeth is now 25 years-old, married, and is both an activist and founder of the Elizabeth Smart Foundation, which helps children who suffered as she did. Check out her interview from the Today Show this morning in the below video.
