Levonte Whitfield: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Levonte Whitfield is the Florida Seminoles wide receiver who is getting national attention following his amazing touchdown run in the BCS National Championship game v the Auburn Tigers. His sensational play that came in the fourth quarter, when FSU needed a big play, and boy did Whitfield come up with it. The freshman took a kick return and dashed 100 yards to the End Zone to give FSU the lead. But there was more drama to come:

1. FSU is His Hometown Team

He’s a Florida native, hailing from Orlando. He goes by the nickname “Kermit.” Going into the game on January 6, he averaged 30.8 yards in 13 returns.

2. His Inclusion This Season Was Due to the Legal Problems of Greg Dent

Whitfield entered contention for a place in the team falling the felony charges against WR Greg Dent. Dent was kicked off the team in pre-season due to pending sexual assault charges.

3. He Sprints 40 Yards in a Little Over 4 Seconds

He’s regarded as one of the fasted players in college football. Whitfield has been recorded atfoing 40-yard dash in 4.37, which ESPN says is the fasted among college athletes. To put that in further context, the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, is estimated to run 40 yards in around 4.40, just .03 faster than Whitfield.

His 100 yard dash in the BCS game took him just 11 seconds.

4. He Was a Sought After Prospect

He committed to FSU in August 2012, rejecting offers from Florida, Clemson, Miami, Ohio State, Texas A&M, South Carolina and West Virginia.

5. He’s Still a Track Star
