Seattle Seahawks fullback Derrick Coleman is the first legally deaf offensive player in NFL history. The 23-year-old was diagnosed with an incurable genetic hearing impairment as a child, but has overcome the steepest odds to play football at the highest level.
Coleman has caught the nation’s eye this month after appearing in an inspirational Duracell TV ad. The commercial chronicles his journey from being bullied as a kid to being passed on in the NFL draft to ultimately making the Seahawks 53-man roster.
