‘Mystery Girls’: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

On June 25, Mystery Girls comes to ABC Family. The show unites former costars Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling, who are actually playing TV actresses who reunite 14 years later.

1. It Stars ‘90210’ Girls

The pair spent 10 seasons on the hit 90’s drama Beverly Hills 90210, sometimes working 16 to 18 hour days together.

Garth, played Kelly Taylor, a rich and popular high school student.

She told On the Red Carpet about her experience on the show:

We spent 10 years in a cave, basically and that was our high school and our college. We had a great time, I mean, what an experience, I wouldn’t have traded it for the world. But, in some ways I missed out on a lot of things but in a lot of ways I was very lucky. So, how do you compare the two?

Spelling’s father, Aaron, the show’s producer, cast his daughter as Donna, a shier type.

In an interview with Vulture, Spelling discussed how she tried to reinvent the character:

So I was like, Okay, what’s gonna make a different character? Oh! Donna will be funny and ditzy. So I created that part. But the sweet, nice part? I feel like that’s very much a part of me, and it very much spoke to me at that time.


2. Their Characters Are Former TV Show Starlets

The girls play Charlie Contour (Garth) and Holly Hamilton (Spelling), who were former TV show detectives.

Miguel Pinzon stars as Nick, a super fan of the actresses who witnesses a murder and demands their help with the case.

Nick’s described on the show’s site as “gay, vibrant, and new to Los Angeles.”

This is the actor’s first role on a series.


4. Another ‘90210’ Actor Makes an Appearance

Spelling tweeted this message that Nat on 90210, Joe E. Tata, will share the screen with the girls again on Mystery Girls.

Nat was the owner of the Peach Pit, which was the hangout diner for the teens on 90210.


5. ABC Family Gave Us a Backstage Tour

Pinzon asks Garth what’s the one thing she’d bring on a desert island. Her answer: “Lipstick!”

The actor also brings us into the wardrobe room, filled with plenty of fancy and fun shoes.
