Nancy Reagan will lie in repose for two days in order to give the public time to pay their respects to the former First Lady who was such a huge inspiration. This is the closest to a “viewing” or “visitation” that the public will have in order to mourn Nancy’s passing and say goodbye, since Nancy Reagan’s funeral service will be private.
Nancy Reagan will be lying in repose today, Wednesday, March 9 and Thursday, March 10. Lying in repose generally refers to a public viewing available for a person of high social stature. Although called a “viewing,” this doesn’t mean that the body of the deceased is actually displayed for the public to see. When Justice Antonin Scalia recently had a lying in repose ceremony, his body was in a casket that was draped with the American flag.
This is the public’s opportunity to come and say goodbye and pay their respects to the former, beloved First Lady. The public can visit her at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library on Wednesday, March 9 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Pacific (4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Eastern) and on Thursday, March 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pacific (1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Eastern).
Shuttles will be available to take the public to and from the nearby Bank of America and to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, since parking won’t be available at the Library itself. Cameras will not be allowed inside the Presidential Library, according to the Reagan Foundation. Strollers and large bags also won’t be allowed inside. All bags will be inspected due to heightened security.
