The bombs used by ISIS terrorists during attacks at an airport and train station Tuesday morning in Brussels all contained shrapnel, including nails and bolts, Belgian authorities say.
Officials at the Hospital Gasthuisberg in Leuven said victims suffered fractures, burns and deep cuts caused by metal objects, NBC News reports.
The Military Hospital in Neder-over-Heembeek released a photo of an x-ray showing a bolt stuck in the chest of a survivor:
Three bombs were found at the Brussels Airport, but only two detonated. Police released a surveillance photo showing three men pushing luggage carts believed to be suspects in the bombing. One of the men, on the far right, possibly survived the attack and police have issued a wanted notice for him. They have not yet been identified.
More than 30 people were killed at least another 170 injured in the bombings, authorities say. ISIS claimed responsibility for the series of deadly terror attacks.
The so-called Islamic State said of the bombings:
Islamic State fighters carried out a series of bombings with explosive belts and devices on Tuesday, targeting an airport and a central metro station in the center of the Belgian capital Brussels, a country participating in the international coalition against the Islamic State.
Belgian federal prosecutors said investigators found an explosive device containing nails, “chemical products” and an ISIS flag during a raid after the bombings, the Associated Press reports.
