U.S. Rep. Mark Takai of Hawaii passed away after battling pancreatic cancer, leaving behind his wife, Sami, children Matthew and Kaila, and a loving extended family who will miss him greatly. Takai announced publicly in November that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was undergoing surgery. They thought the tumor was isolated and had been caught early. In February he announced his re-election campaign for a second term in Congress, but in May he learned the cancer had spread and decided not to seek re-election.
