Photos & Memes: Crying Bernie Sanders’ Supporters at DNC

When Bernie Sanders took the stage for his much anticipated speech at the Democratic National Convention Monday night in Philadelphia, the camera captured a lot of crying Bernie supporters (some were calling them “crying Bernie girls” or “crying Bernie millennials” on Twitter, noticing that those tearing up tended to be young women). Well, not all of them, Some Twitter users were calling this crying Bernie Supporter “crying Peter Pan guy”:

But most of them did seem to be younger females:

Sanders thanked President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden for “pulling us out of that awful recession.” Sanders said: “This election is about which candidate understands the real problems facing this country and has offered real solutions. Not just bombast. Not just fear mongering. Not just namecalling and divisiveness.”

Sanders’ approach to the Democratic National Convention appeared to be one of healing and seeking unity. According to The Los Angeles Times, Sanders sent a text message to his supporters “asking them to refrain from protests on the convention floor as a ‘personal courtesy’ to him.” But some couldn’t hold back their emotions:

The tears came near the beginning of the speech, when Sanders was talking about his core campaign message, in which he stressed the low amount of the average donation he received. Sanders’ speech came after the Democratic National Committee was rocked by the WikiLeaks email document dump, but he threw his support behind Hillary Clinton. The almost 20,000 emails released by WikiLeaks in the days leading up to the covention appeared to show that top Democratic National Committee officials had favored Clinton over Sanders during the primary, leaving many Sanders’ supporters’ feelings raw going into Philadelphia.

Those emails led to the resignation of DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who was booed by Sanders supporters the morning of July 25 at a breakfast of her home delegation.

When it came to the crying Bernie supporters, some people couldn’t help posting the inevitable memes or weighing in on Twitter:
