Early Wednesday morning it was reported by WSB-TV in Atlanta that Carlos Walker, known by many as rapper Shawty Lo, passed away due to injuries suffered in a car accident.
Originally reported as a “hit and run” accident, law enforcement officials stated that it was a one-car crash with Walker and two female passengers involved. Walker was reportedly thrown from the vehicle, a 2016 Audi, and died at the scene. The crash occurred on I-285 near the Cascade Road exit in South Fulton County, Georgia.
Walker’s manager announced the artist’s death by way of his verified Twitter account early Wednesday morning.
Walker was driving the vehicle, which hit a guardrail and several trees before catching fire. The two female passengers involved in the accident were taken to an area hospital, where they were treated for what were reported as non-life threatening injuries.
Walker, who was 40 years old, was a member of the rap group D4L (made famous by the song “Laffy Taffy”) in addition to having his own solo career headlined by the single “Dey Know,” which in 2007 was the first single released from his debut solo album “Units in the City.”
“Dey Know” would rank as high as third on Billboard’s US Hot Rap Songs list in March 2008.
Walker, who recently lost his father, is survived by 11 children who were born to ten different women.
