MineCon is going for something a little different this year. Versus packing tens of thousands of fans from across the globe into a convention center, MineCon, now dubbed MineCon Earth, will be a 90 minute stream celebrating all things Minecraft…with a few surprises to boot.
And the first of those booty surprises is the host. Bojack Horseman (or Gob Bluth) himself, Will Arnett will be hosting the November 18th event along with Mojang’s Lydia Winters – starting at 12pm EST.
“My boys and I have so much fun playing Minecraft, but even more than that, I love how Minecraft inspires so much creativity in them. I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of MINECON!” said Arnett regarding the announcement.
Mr. Arnett is known for a variety of roles, including Gob Bluth from the critically acclaimed Arrested Development, as the title character in Bojack Horseman, and in a variety of movie and television roles, including the tragically underrated Vern in the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series.
Arnett isn’t a stranger to gaming culture, lending his voice to ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’, ‘Eat lead: The Return of Matt Hazard’, and reprising his Batman role in Lego Dimensions.
Hosting from a ‘virtual stage’, Arnett and Winters will lead viewers through the live-streamed festivities, which you can watch on Mixer, Twitch, or via a local ‘viewing party’ of which there are quite a few. There will also be several local and officially endorsed conventions seeking to replicate brick-and-mortar MineCon experience.
MineCon Earth was officially announced via a hilarious announcement video that laid out the reasons for the drastic change in format – namely logistics:
Hot on the heels of the ‘Better Together’ update which allowed cross-platform play between Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and Mobile gamers, it’s clear the folks at Mojang will have much to celebrate, and gamers will have quite a bit to look forward to.
To celebrate, here is an incredible remake of the Bojack Horseman intro made entirely in Minecraft by YouTuber Alex of Omnimo Support:
