Newark, LaGuardia, JFK Flight Delays From Weather [May 30]

NWS New York airports are seeing delays due to the weather.

Three busy airports in New York City and New Jersey were delaying flights as a result of severe weather predictions for the area: Newark, LaGuardia, and Kennedy airports.

That’s the news on May 30, 2019, as the east coast continues to be endangered by possible tornado-spawning bad weather. The National Weather Service’s New York Office was issuing flood warnings for the region and wrote on May 30, “Another evening with showers and some thunderstorms with activity moving from Northern NJ toward the Metro areas. watch for heavy rain, lightning and isolated flooding.” That was better news, though, than previous days when the weather service actually warned that a tornado was possible in New York City and New Jersey (thankfully one didn’t develop.)

You can follow the New York NWS Office on Twitter here. The site posts frequent weather updates. The May 30 delays follow delays at all three airports the previous day due to severe weather.

As of 10 p.m. on May 30, 2019, the FAA was reporting these airport delays:

Delays by Destination:

“Due to WEATHER / THUNDERSTORMS and WEATHER / THUNDERSTORMS, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving La Guardia Airport, New York, NY (LGA). This is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 3 hours and 15 minutes.”

“Due to WEATHER / THUNDERSTORMS, departure traffic destined to Newark International Airport, Newark, NJ (EWR) is currently experiencing delays averaging 4 hours and 8 minutes.

Due to WEATHER / THUNDERSTORMS, departure traffic destined to John F Kennedy International Airport, New York, NY (JFK) is currently experiencing delays averaging 2 hours and 35 minutes.

Due to WEATHER / LOW CEILINGS, departure traffic destined to San Francisco International Airport, San Francisco, CA (SFO) is currently experiencing delays averaging 57 minutes.”

It’s a good idea to check with your airline to get specific flight information for each of the three airports, however.

Here’s more information on each of the three airports:

LaGuardia

LaGuardia wrote on the evening of May 30: “Weather conditions have caused #LGA Airport flight disruptions. Check with your airline to determine the status of your flight.”

JFK

Kennedy airport similarly wrote: “Weather conditions at #JFK have caused flight disruptions. Please check with your airline to determine the status of your flight.”

The airport also warned, “Higher than usual passenger volumes during the summer travel season may result in longer wait times at customs due to @CBP staffing changes by the federal government.”

Newark

Newark Liberty Airport wrote, “Weather conditions have caused EWR Airport flight disruptions. Please check with your airline to determine the status of your flight.”
