‘Malika the Lion Queen’ Preview
Narrated by Angela Bassett, “Malika the Lion Queen” is a two-hour wildlife documentary that follows the lionesses “of a powerful pride in South Africa’s Kruger National Park,” according to the FOX press release.
It continues:
The special takes viewers through the exhilarating and harrowing life of Malika. This untold story of the lioness’s experience is an educational exploration about the true queens and leaders in the lion kingdom. It is a stunning masterpiece of visual storytelling and offers a uniquely personal insight into one of the most powerful animals to walk the earth today.
“We’ve long been exploring premium wildlife specials that present an entirely new world full of emotional and aspirational stories that appeal to all viewers. In ‘Malika the Lion Queen,’ we’ve found everything we were seeking,” said Rob Wade, President, Alternative Entertainment and Specials, FOX Entertainment, in a statement. “With Angela Bassett guiding viewers along with her hallmark grace and gravitas, coupled with mesmerizing footage captured by the Plimsoll team, ‘Malika the Lion Queen’ is perfect evening entertainment for the whole family.”
“Everybody loves a female empowerment story and this one, of course, is jumping across species. And we all grew up with ‘The Lion King,’ you know, in our psyche, in our purview,” Bassett told Fox News in an interview. “But I wonder how many people know for sure that it really is the female of that breed that protects and hunts and really is the leader of that pride.
She added, “Every cub has many, many aunties and mothers, they help to rear and to raise and to grow them into their potential. And I hope that we can, glean some of that for ourselves, that every child [has potential]. And we should want the best for them.”
“Malika the Lion Queen” premieres Sunday, April 4 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
