Wisconsin vs Minnesota 2021 Preview

The Badgers are coming off a 35-28 victory over Nebraska last weekend.

“I was proud of the way we just kept playing,” Badgers head coach Paul Chryst said after the game. “You know, guys just kept picking each other up and get to keep going to do this. And this was a good football team. We knew that going in. And I appreciate the efforts that went into not just today, but all week. And I want them to enjoy that and then we get to move forward tomorrow.”

Freshman running back Braelon Allen had his seventh straight 100+ yard rushing game game, and the 17-year-old back has 401 yards and six scores over the last two weeks. Allen had 22 carries for 228 yards and three touchdowns against Nebraska last weekend, and he’ll be difficult for the Golden Gophers to stop.

“We know who we are, we know what we got, we know what we need to do. And I think they’ve done a good job of focusing on that. And, you know, it’s a group that likes playing football and like playing together,” Chryst added.

The Badgers will have a chance to clinch the West Division with a win here. On the other side, Minnesota is fresh from a 35-14 win over Indiana last weekend. QB Tanner Morgan completed 14 of 20 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Ky Thomas added 105 yards and two scores on 26 carries.

Now, they’ll be going up against a Badgers team that is surrendering just 15.8 points a game on defense.

“They are maybe one of the best defenses we played against in our time here of any opponent. They’re very good,” Gophers head coach P.J. Fleck said, adding: “and that’s credit to Coach Leonhard and Coach Chryst. I have an enormous amount of respect for their staff of what they’ve been able to accomplish and the type of players they have and how well they play.”

The Badgers lead the all-time series, 62–60–8, and they won last year, 20-17.
