Maryland vs. Stanford: Time, Channel, Line & Prediction

(Getty)

While Stanford took a step back this season, it still made a bowl game. And the game will be played just steps from the northern California campus at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

The trip for Maryland, the Cardinal opponent, is slightly longer. By about 2,800 miles.

And what awaits the Terrapins (7-5, 4-4 Big Ten) after their cross country trip is the nation’s No. 2 scoring defense.

Stanford had 4 consecutive seasons with at least 11 wins, but dipped to 7 in 2014. The Cardinal finished 7-5 overall and 5-4 in the Pac-12 under David Shaw.

Stanford was 1-5 vs. ranked opponents, while the ‘Terps were 0-2.

Stanford Highlights

Heavy’s Pick

Randy Edsall‘s Terrapins score nearly 30 points per game, led by dual-threat quarterback C.J. Brown. Brown has passed for 2,083 yards and 13 touchdowns and rushed for another team-leading 569 and 7 scores.

But to say he has his work cut out for him would be an understatement. I mentioned Stanford’s stout scoring D and these numbers came in the high-flying Pac-12. OK, Oregon didn’t exactly play nice with Stanford, but the Ducks had Heisman winner Marcus Mariota. The Cardinal actually made Mariota appear human (sort of). And, no offense to Brown, but he’s no Mariota. Brown isn’t even Mariota Light. He’s more like Mariota Zero. Again, no offense.

Remound Wright has rushed for 6 of his 8 touchdowns in the past 2 games, but the Stanford offense isn’t going to strike fear into the Maryland defense. And vice versa.

Playing in “The House That Harbaugh Left” is basically a home game for Stanford. That’s not going to be the reason the Cardinal get the win, though. They’ll win because their defense is going to suffocate the ‘Terps’ offense.

Stanford 27, Maryland 10
