Final Score

New Mexico State 23-33–56
Kansas 36-39–75

The No. 2 seed Kansas Jayhawks defeated the Western Athletic Conference Champion, No. 15 New Mexico State Aggies in dominant fashion a Round of 64 game in the Midwest Region. New Mexico State struggled to defend the perimeter and allowed mainly easy shots for the Jayhawks all game.

Kansas plays the winner of No. 7 Wichita State vs. No. 10 Indiana in the Round of 32 on Sunday. If Wichita State should win, their Round of 32 game on Sunday would be a defacto, current battle for dominance in the state.

The Jayhawks Fast Start Had Them Up Double-digits at the Intermission

Kansas had a balanced scoring attack for mostly the 1st half. Perry Ellis scored nine in the opening frame, which was good news for head coach Bill Self and the Jayhawks.
The Aggies came out mostly unprepared and couldnt figure out the Jayhawks on D for much of the half. New Mexico State eventually went down 18 with just over three minutes remaining before they cut the deficit back to 13 right before half.

Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk

Kansas’ attack remained mostly balanced into the 2nd half. Frank Mason III led the Jayhawks in scoring with 17 points and nine rebounds. He was also the only player to attempt more than nine shots in the game.
