The intrigue surrounding the Cleveland Browns’ training camp, of course, starts at quarterback.
36-year-old free-agent signing Josh McCown is the frontrunner to be the Week 1 starter, but Johnny Manziel is lurking. The polarizing young QB had a forgettable rookie season, but he has the talent to change Mike Pettine’s mind during camp.
Of course, when it comes to Cleveland’s offense, there are interesting storylines all over the field: Terrelle Pryor’s move to wide receiver, the addition of Dwayne Bowe to help stop the bleeding after Josh Gordon’s suspension and the three-way battle at running back between Isaiah Crowell, Terrance West and rookie Duke Johnson.
The Browns look set on defense. They have one of the best secondaries in the league, while massive defensive tackle Danny Shelton should help fix the running game. If they can get some consistency on offense, their first postseason berth since 2002 is attainable.
Finding that consistency starts with training camp, which starts Thursday, July 30 at the team’s facility in Berea, Ohio. Here’s the full practice schedule, via the team’s official website:
