Paul Dunne: Golf Odds to Win the British Open 2015

An amateur isn’t supposed to be in contention to win the British Open.

Neither is a player who came in with 1500/1 odds to win before the tournament started.

Nobody told Paul Dunne that.

Dunne, a 22-year-old from Ireland, has his name at the top of the leaderboard at 12-under heading into Monday’s final round at the Open Championship.

Dunne likely isn’t used to the bright lights and media attention he will be bombarded with Monday. You don’t get that type of stuff playing college golf like he did at UAB in Birmingham, Alabama.

So, despite his placement on the Open leaderboard, Dunne isn’t the oddsmakers’ favorite to win. From sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com, Dunne has 12/1 odds to win the third major of the year.

Jordan Spieth, who is at 11-under, has the best odds at 9/4. Jason Day and 2010 winner at St. Andrews, Louis Oosthuizen, are at 7/2. The odds are subject to change.

If you bet on Dunne at 1500/1 and he wins, you’re going to be rolling in the cash. But unfortunately for Dunne, he’s an amateur, so he’s not collecting any of the event’s prize purse.
