After a short two-day break, play resumes at the 2015 Rugby World Cup Wednesday with a trio of intriguing matchups.
First up is the early story of the tournament, Japan, looking to build on their historic upset of South Africa when they face Scotland, who has yet to play a match. The Brave Blossoms are again underdogs in Gloucester, and they certainly aren’t going to sneak up on the Scots, but Eddie Jones’ team has certainly proven it belongs.
In the second match, we head to the “Pool of Death,” where Australia, one of the premier favorites at this tournament, meets Fiji. The Flying Fijians looked tough in the opener and were down 18-11 in the 64th minute against hosts England, but they ultimately ran out of steam and fell to defeat, 35-11. A matchup against the Wallabies isn’t exactly the recipe to get things back on track.
Finally, France and Romania close out the day. France sits second in Pool D after a 32-10 drubbing of Italy, while this will serve as the opener to the tournament for Romania, who have never advanced past pool play.
Here’s a complete look at the schedule for the day:
Wednesday, September 23 Fixtures
Scotland 45, Japan 10
Australia 28, Fiji 13
France 38, Romania 13
