The last time the Cleveland Browns or Oakland Raiders made the playoffs was in 2002, when, coincidentally, they both made it. That drought may not end as early as 2015, but it doesn’t seem like it will last much longer.
Led by Amari Cooper, Derek Carr and Latavius Murray (age 21, 24 and 25, respectively), the Raiders (1-1) tallied 448 yards of total offense in a 37-33 win over the Baltimore Ravens last week. Throw in a talent-laden defensive line led by Khalil Mack, Justin Tuck and Aldon Smith, and the Silver and Black quietly have playmakers all over the field.
The Browns (1-1), meanwhile, feature an excellent secondary, an improving defensive line and one of the best offensive lines in football. The problem has always been at quarterback, and it will be key for Josh McCown, who is starting over Johnny Manziel after missing last week due to a concussion, to manage the game.
Although both teams may still have some holes, they are far from the bottom rung of the league. And after Sunday, one of them will be sitting at 2-1.
Kickoff for this one is at 1 p.m. ET. It will be broadcast on CBS in Oakland and Cleveland, as well as other select areas throughout the country.
